About the FJMC Canada

This is what we are all about

  1. To develop health education programs for Jewish men within the Canadian Jewish community. This purpose will be accomplished by training volunteer leaders from Canadian synagogues and other Canadian Jewish organizations to conduct health education programs in conjunction with those organizations. The individuals receiving such training will be provided with manuals to assist them in conducting the programs. The programs will be directed at Jewish men who are members of Canadian synagogues and other Jewish organizations who are at risk for physical and mental health problems, and will focus, without charge, on providing printed information and educational programs on men's physical health and mental health issues, as well as on genetic disorders affecting Jewish people disproportionately.
  2. To develop religious and family-oriented education programs for young Jewish men within the Canadian Jewish community. This purpose will be accomplished by training volunteer seminar leaders from Canadian synagogues and other Canadian Jewish organizations to conduct education programs in conjunction with those organizations, dealing with religious education, Jewish marriage obligations, and the raising of Jewish children. The programs will be directed at young Jewish men, who are often at risk of assimilation and of losing their and their families' Jewish identities. The programs will focus on providing, without charge, printed information on and group teaching of Jewish religious rites, the teaching of reading and comprehension of the classical Hebrew language, Jewish religious services, marital relations within a Jewish marriage, and the raising and education of children.
  3. To develop religious and family-oriented education programs for inter-married couples (one Jewish and one non-Jewish spouse). This purpose will be accomplished by training volunteer leaders from Canadian synagogues and other Canadian Jewish organizations to make contact with such couples, and to invite their participation in group teaching of Jewish religious rites, the teaching of reading and comprehension of the classical Hebrew language, Jewish religious services, marital relations within a mixed marriage, and the raising and education of children within a mixed marriage. The goal will be further accomplished by encouraging synagogues and other Canadian Jewish organizations to be welcoming to all inter-married couples, with no preconditions or goals of conversion.
  4. To develop a Holocaust remembrance program. This purpose will be accomplished by distributing special memorial candles to the members of Canadian synagogues and other Canadian Jewish organizations, and requesting but not requiring voluntary contributions to the Corporation to help defray the costs of the program.
